Hope & Renewal Counseling offers therapy services to veterans and their families.

Transitioning from military to civilian life can be scary and anxiety provoking.

You do not have to walk that journey alone.

I’ve been a member of and then worked with the Department of Defense since 1999.

Over two decades’ worth of experience submerged in military culture has given me the unique lived experience and perspective to appreciate the challenges Veterans face when leaving their military careers and starting their civilian lives.

Therapy for Veterans and their loved ones, by a Veteran.

Tailored to Veterans ready for change and adjusting to civilian life after military service.

MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Hi there, I’m Ashley.

Therapy came into my life long before I made it my profession. I have lived experience with family members, loved ones, and colleagues navigating mental health and addiction challenges. I learned early what it looks like when people who are doing their best are still stuck. That is the work I do now, and I do it the way I wish someone had done it for the people I love: with a clear plan, an active partner, and the honesty to name what is actually happening. I am Ashley Miller, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Oceanside, Oregon, with ten years in practice. I trained at the University of Southern California and Portland State University, and my work is grounded in cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, evidence-based trauma treatments, somatic-based therapeutic frameworks, and polyvagal theory.

The way I practice has been shaped by experiences outside the therapy room. I spent over a decade living in three different countries, which gave me a working knowledge of what it actually feels like to be the outsider, to adapt, and to rebuild your sense of normal; a perspective that informs my work with clients who are between cultures, between roles, or between chapters of their lives. As a Female Veteran myself, I also work closely with other women who have served, because the way military experience shapes a person should be met by someone who knows it from the inside because I have worked at every level of government; county, state, federal, and international. I can help clients navigate the systems they are often stuck inside: Guardianship, Conservatorship, long-term care, SPMI services, dual diagnosis, and Veteran services.

Outside of the therapy room, I am usually outside walking my dogs along the Oregon coast, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering with local Veterans. The same things that brought me into this work are the things that fill my own life: connection, the outdoors, and the steady, ordinary practice of caring for the people around me.
